Shipping policy

Free express shipping worldwide on paintings from our gallery in Kathmandu.

Dispatch

  • From Kathmandu: we dispatch within 1–3 days of your order, from our gallery in Kathmandu. We send by DHL, FedEx, UPS or SF Express, choosing the best service for your country.
  • Brocade mounting (when offered) adds 3–5 days.
  • Packing: each painting is rolled, never folded, and sent in a strong tube.
  • Tracking: you get an email with your tracking number as soon as it ships.
  • Pieces held in Australia: a few pieces are kept in Queensland and sold only in Australia. They ship from Queensland within 1–3 days by Australia Post Parcel Post (tracked, usually 2–6 business days). Delivery for these pieces is free.
  • Festival closures in Nepal: during the main Nepali festivals, Dashain (October) and Tihar (October or November), the gallery and Kathmandu customs close for several days. We show the next dispatch date at the top of the site and next to the price before you order.

Delivery time

Delivery usually takes 3–12 days after dispatch, depending on the country and customs.

Duties and taxes on arrival

Our prices don't include import charges in your country. Every parcel is declared honestly, as a contemporary hand-painted painting at the price you paid. As a guide, this is what buyers usually pay when the parcel arrives:

Destination What you usually pay on arrival
United States Nothing on paintings. Singing bowls and bells: 5.8% duty, plus the courier's fee when duty is due.
Australia Pieces from Kathmandu: orders up to A$1,000 include 10% GST in the price, with nothing more to pay on arrival; above that, GST is collected at the border. Pieces from Queensland: GST is included in the price, delivery is free, and there are no import charges.
Hong Kong Nothing
Taiwan 5% tax above NT$2,000. You may be asked to complete the EZ WAY customs app.
Malaysia Nothing up to RM500; above that, 10% sales tax
Singapore 9% GST above S$400
Japan About 6% tax, plus the courier's fee
Canada GST/HST, plus the courier's fee
United Kingdom Import VAT (effectively 5% on original paintings, 20% on singing bowls and bells), plus the courier's fee
European Union Import VAT at your country's rate (some countries use a lower rate for original art), plus the courier's fee
Mainland China 20% personal import tax on the painting, paid on arrival. The limit for a personal parcel is RMB 1,000; a parcel holding a single painting can still clear as a personal item, but customs may hold it for checks. We send one piece per parcel.
Elsewhere Import taxes may apply, paid on delivery

These rules are set by each country and can change. The table was checked on 11 October 2026.

If you refuse a parcel because of import charges, we refund the price once the parcel is back with us, minus the cost of returning it to us.

Address and delivery problems

  • Please check your address and phone number at checkout. Couriers often call before delivering, and customs may contact you.
  • If a parcel comes back because the address was wrong or nobody collected it, we'll re-send it at cost or refund the price, minus the return shipping charged to us.
  • If your parcel is lost, or arrives damaged, tell us and we'll refund you in full or offer a similar piece. We handle the claim with the courier.
