Five Manjushri Thangka – 171×79 cm, Master Grade
White Manjushri sits at the centre of this long horizontal painting under a jewelled canopy hung with gold-coloured streamers, his right hand in the gesture of giving at his knee and his left at his heart holding the stems of lotuses that bear a flaming sword and a book at his shoulders.
Four more forms of Manjushri sit on either side in their own haloes and gold-coloured aureoles: yellow and blue at the left, each with a sword raised, and red and green at the right.
They sit on lotuses along a long throne hung with cloths bearing crossed vajras, with auspicious symbols between them, before snow peaks, green hills and a blue sky where two dragons fly among clouds.
Heaps of jewels and tusks rest on the hills below, above a band of gold-coloured Tibetan script on black, inside an orange border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 171 × 79 cm (67.3 × 31.1 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
