Buddha Life Story Thangka – 104×72 cm, Collector Grade
Shakyamuni Buddha sits at the centre on a throne supported by elephants and snow lions, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a bowl, surrounded by the episodes of his life set among hills, palaces and stupas.
The scenes run from Queen Maya's dream of a white elephant at the upper left, through the prince's chariot ride, where he meets old age, sickness and death, and his enlightenment amid the armies of Mara, to his passing into nirvana, with his disciples mourning around him at the lower centre.
A wide painted border of dragons, flowers and the eight auspicious symbols frames the scenes. Signed at the lower right: Krishna Lama.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 104 × 72 cm (40.9 × 28.3 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
Also in this painting: Queen Maya, the four sights, Mara, the parinirvana
