Shakyamuni Buddha sits in a great circle at the centre of this long horizontal painting, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a bowl.
Around him, scenes of his life are set in roundels and among hills, palaces and clouds, from his birth to his teaching, all drawn in gold-coloured line work on black with touches of blue, inside a patterned border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.
