Buddha Life Story Thangka – 110×66 cm, Classic Grade
Drawn in fine gold-coloured line work on black, with blue rivers and touches of green, the painting has Shakyamuni Buddha at the centre inside a large patterned roundel, his body golden and his hair blue, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a blue bowl, with a garuda above his dark halo and attendants and riders around him.
Ten smaller roundels and scenes among hills, rivers, trees and palaces tell the story of his life, from Queen Maya holding a branch at his birth in the upper left roundel to the Buddha seated amid the armies of Mara at the lower right and his passing into nirvana among mourners and stupas at the lower centre, with a standing Buddha among clouds at the upper right and a Buddha among smaller Buddhas under an arch of rainbow-coloured rays at the top.
Dragons and scrolls in gold-coloured line work run around the black border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 110 × 66 cm (43.3 × 26.0 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
