Buddha Life Story Thangka – 67×90 cm, Classic Grade
Shakyamuni Buddha sits at the centre on a lotus throne, touching the earth with his right hand and holding a bowl in his left, framed by a gold-coloured aureole under an arch topped by a garuda, with white snow lions and blue elephants at its sides and two disciples holding staffs standing beside the throne.
Scenes of his life fill the green hills, palaces and stupas around him: gods with a white elephant ride the clouds in the starry sky at the upper right, Queen Maya holds the branch of a tree at his birth at the left while the newborn stands among flowers below her, he lies in nirvana on a couch below the throne, and at the lower centre he sits amid flames and dark demons.
The scenes are framed by a brown border of blue dragons and gold-coloured scrolls, with a dark red outer edge.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 67 × 90 cm (26.4 × 35.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
