About this thangka
Shipping & Return

Dark Yama, crowned with skulls and haloed in flames, grips the Wheel of Life in his hands, feet and jaws.

At the hub, a bird, a snake and a pig stand for desire, anger and ignorance; the six realms of rebirth are crowded with small figures, houses and trees, with a Buddha in each, and four-armed Chenrezig and Shakyamuni sit in roundels in the upper corners.

Two winged creatures crouch beneath Yama's feet, and a pale blue border of flowers and dragons frames the whole.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.

Size: 63 × 84 cm (24.8 × 33.1 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →

In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.

Also in this painting: Chenrezig, Shakyamuni, Buddhas of the six realms

About Wheel of Life

The Wheel of Life is held by Yama, lord of death. At its hub, a rooster, a snake and a pig stand for desire, anger and ignorance; around them are the six realms of rebirth and, on the rim, the twelve links of dependent origination. A Buddha outside the wheel points to the way out.

Also known as Riduk.
