The golden Buddha lies on his right side on a couch, his head resting on his right hand and his eyes closed, wearing a black robe patterned with gold-coloured flowers, under a grove of trees with pink blossoms.

Monks, crowned deities, mourners in blue headscarves and red wrathful figures crowd around the couch in grief, many weeping, and three elders on a cloud descend at the upper right, one holding a staff topped with a blue jewel.

In front, a white elephant, a lion, a buffalo, deer, birds, a peacock, a snake and a turtle gather on the green ground, under grey clouds and a night sky with a crescent moon, stars and small auspicious symbols, inside a pale grey border.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.

Size: 64 × 90 cm (25.2 × 35.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
