A Tibetan singing bowl is a standing bell: struck or circled with its wooden striker, it gives a long, layered tone. In the Himalayas, bowls like this one mark the start and end of meditation.
Today many people use them for meditation, yoga and sound practice, or simply enjoy the sound at home. Each bowl has its own pitch and sustain, so no two sound exactly alike.
To play: rest the bowl on its cushion and tap the rim lightly with the striker. Or press the striker against the outside of the rim and circle it slowly and steadily until the bowl begins to sing.
