About this thangka
Shipping & Return

The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls around a small lotus at the centre, with a gateway on each side, drawn entirely in fine gold-coloured line work on black.

Rings of water, Kalachakra mantra syllables and dharma wheels surround it, flowers and clouds fill the corners, and a border of dragons, garudas and endless knots frames the whole.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.

Size: 107 × 107 cm (42.1 × 42.1 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →

In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.

About Kalachakra Mandala

The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
