Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 68×68 cm, Master Grade
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls of orange, gold-coloured, silver-grey, white and black around a small lattice square holding a pink flower at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side, white animals drawing chariots in the gateways and small dharma wheels in the courtyards.
Around it run a ring of flowers and white offering figures, a ring of grey water, and orange-red and black bands carrying Kalachakra mantra syllables in orange, white and grey with four orange and four grey dharma wheels, inside a rim of gold-coloured scrollwork with orange and grey segments.
The circle is set on an olive ground that lightens around the circle and darkens towards the edges, inside a dark grey border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 68 × 68 cm (26.8 × 26.8 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
