Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 55×55 cm, Classic Grade
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls of white, yellow, orange, red, green and blue around a small dark blue square holding a gold-coloured flower at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side, white animals at the gateways and pink and blue flowers in the dark court around it.
A yellow rope-patterned ring, a ring of blue water, a pink ring, a black band of multicoloured Kalachakra mantra syllables with white and yellow dharma wheels, a green ring and a wide gold-coloured scroll-patterned rim surround it, set on an orange ground shading to pink.
Interlaced scrolls in green, blue, orange and olive fill the corners, and clouds, flames, dharma wheels, endless knots and small dragons run around the orange border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 55 × 55 cm (21.7 × 21.7 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
