Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 100×100 cm, Fine Grade
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls around a small square centre holding an eight-petalled flower, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side and small animals in the gateway courts, drawn entirely in gold-coloured line work on black.
A ring of flower scrolls and offering vessels, a broad ring of swirling gold-coloured waves and a band of large Kalachakra mantra syllables with eight dharma wheels surround it, closed by a rim of gold-coloured cloud scrolls, with gold-coloured cloud scrolls in the corners, three of them holding offerings of the senses: fruit, a pair of cymbals and a mirror.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 100 × 100 cm (39.4 × 39.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
