Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 55×55 cm, Fine Grade · MH-2382
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls of orange, yellow, blue, white, red and black around a small lattice square holding a pink eight-petalled flower at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side, white animals and clusters of jewels in the gateways and small wheels in the courtyards.
Around it run a ring of flowers and offerings, a ring of pale blue water, and red and black bands carrying Kalachakra mantra syllables in many colours with four orange and four blue-grey dharma wheels, inside an olive ring and a rim of gold-coloured and multi-coloured scrollwork.
The circle is set on a blue ground that lightens around the circle, with orange and pink scrolls in the corners framing offerings of the senses: a conch, a mirror, fruit and cymbals.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 55 × 55 cm (21.7 × 21.7 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
