Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 56×56 cm, Fine Grade · MH-2654
The Kalachakra palace is drawn in gold-coloured line work on black, its nested square walls set with small wheels and syllables around a small silver-white flower pattern at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side, small animals in white line work at the gateways and gold-coloured cloud scrolls in the court around it.
A ring of silver-white waves, a band of multicoloured Kalachakra mantra syllables with eight gold-coloured and silver-white dharma wheels and a rim of gold-coloured and silver-white cloud scrolls surround it.
Gold-coloured and silver-white cloud scrolls fill the black corners, with offerings among them including cymbals, a flower and a conch, inside a thin white border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 56 × 56 cm (22.0 × 22.0 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
