Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 56×56 cm, Fine Grade · MH-2674
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls drawn in white line work on black and shaded in silver-grey, around a small lattice square with a four-petalled flower at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side and small wheels, syllables and animals in the courtyards.
Around it run a ring of white cloud scrolls, a broad ring of swirling silver-grey waves and a black band of Kalachakra mantra syllables in red, yellow, blue and green with eight white dharma wheels, inside a rim of white flame scrolls.
White cloud scrolls fill the black corners around offerings of the senses, among them a pair of cymbals, a flower and a conch, inside a thin white line.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 56 × 56 cm (22.0 × 22.0 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
