Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 45×45 cm, Fine Grade · MH-2603
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls of blue, red, gold-coloured and black from a small lotus at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side.
Around it run rings of blue water, red and black bands carrying coloured Kalachakra syllables and dharma wheels, and an orange and gold-coloured scroll-patterned rim.
A great halo of zigzag rays in shades of green, fading to white near the circle, surrounds it on a dark brown ground, with a blue endless knot and cloud scrolls in each corner, inside a blue border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 45 × 45 cm (17.7 × 17.7 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
