Kalachakra Mandala Thangka – 45×45 cm, Fine Grade · MH-2607
The Kalachakra palace rises in nested square walls of yellow, red, blue, white and black around a pink grid of small flowers and wheels at the centre, with a gateway topped by a tiered arch on each side and small animals and flowers in the courts around it.
Around it run rings of blue water, a red ring, a black band of multicoloured Kalachakra mantra syllables with eight dharma wheels, a green ring and an outer ring of many-coloured flame patterns.
A great halo of zigzag rays in yellow, fading through olive and grey into black, surrounds the circle, with an endless knot and scrolling clouds in each corner, in ochre, green, maroon and blue, inside a thin white edge.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.

About Kalachakra Mandala
The Kalachakra ("Wheel of Time") mandala shows the palace of the deity Kalachakra from above: nested square walls with a gateway on each side, set inside rings of fire, vajras, water and mantra syllables. It is one of the most complex mandalas in Tibetan Buddhism, and its geometry follows strict rules handed down by painters for centuries.
