Medicine Buddha Thangka – 56×70 cm, Classic Grade
Blue Medicine Buddha sits cross-legged on a red lotus, his right hand reaching over his knee in the gesture of giving beside a sprig with blue flowers, and his left hand in his lap holding a dark bowl, in robes patterned with gold-coloured line work, framed by a dark halo with a maroon rim and a gold-coloured aureole set with red and blue jewels.
Red, crowned Amitayus sits among peonies at the top, with White Tara at the upper left and Green Tara at the upper right on clouds; below, two monks stand on blue lotuses at either side, each holding a staff and a bowl.
Green hills with gold-coloured grasses, gold-coloured peaks and trees fill the landscape under blue and maroon clouds, and at the centre below a dark blue jewel and a dharma wheel rise from a pink lotus on a gold-coloured stand, inside a blue edge.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 56 × 70 cm (22.0 × 27.6 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
Also in this painting: Amitayus; White Tara; Green Tara
