Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Thangka – 57×81 cm, Fine Grade · ET-2157
White Samantabhadra sits on a white elephant that lies on a black cushion over a pink lotus, his right hand raised at his heart with thumb and finger joined and his left hand below it holding a string of dark beads, with a gold-coloured lotus bearing a bound book at his left shoulder, and he wears a jewelled crown and a robe patterned in gold-coloured line work on black.
A black halo scattered with small gold-coloured rosettes and an aureole of fine gold-coloured rays frame him inside a black oval filled with gold-coloured peonies, lotuses and leaves, with a jewel emblem on a stand above the waves below the lotus.
On the green ground around the oval, four gold-coloured dragons fill the corners, with a wrathful mask at the top and a roundel at the foot, among scrolls and endless knots drawn in white line work.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 57 × 81 cm (22.4 × 31.9 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
