Shakyamuni Buddha Thangka in Silk Brocade
Shakyamuni Buddha Thangka in Silk Brocade
Shakyamuni Buddha sits on a lotus, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a patterned blue bowl in his lap, his red-brown robe drawn in gold-coloured line work, framed by a pale green halo filled with gold-coloured line drawings, a pink rim and an aureole of fine blue rays inside a jewelled border.
Pale green leaves rise above his halo, pink and orange peonies grow on either side, and grey clouds drift across a sky that shades from purple to orange-red.
Two disciples in rayed haloes stand on small lotuses in the lower corners, with a bowl of jewels on a rock at the centre below.
It is mounted in silk brocade.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Also in this painting: two disciples
