Shakyamuni Buddha sits on a lotus, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a dark teal alms bowl in his lap, his red-brown robe covered in gold-coloured patterning, framed by a green halo, an aureole of fine dark rays and a gold-coloured outer aureole set with jewels.

A white Buddha in the teaching gesture sits among ochre clouds at the upper left and a green Buddha with his right hand raised and a bowl in his left sits among mauve clouds at the upper right; below, two monks stand on lotuses holding staffs and bowls.

Flowering branches, an orange peony above his halo and red peonies at his sides rise from a landscape of green hills, trees, rocks and snow peaks under a dark sky, with a small flowering tree and an offering of jewels and tusks below, inside a red border.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.

Size: 57 × 80 cm (22.4 × 31.5 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
