Shakyamuni Buddha sits on a blue lotus, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a black alms bowl in his lap, painted in the black-and-gold style with his robe covered in fine gold-coloured patterns and an aureole of gold-coloured rays.
A gold-coloured dragon coils beside a tree at the upper left and a bird with long, multicoloured feathers swoops down from blue clouds at the upper right, with a pink lotus above his halo and peonies at his sides.
Gold-coloured hills, blue clouds and waves fill the ground below, with a gold-coloured jewel on a lotus and an offering of jewels and tusks at the bottom, inside a red-brown border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 52 × 67 cm (20.5 × 26.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
