Shakyamuni Buddha sits on a red lotus, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a dark bowl dotted in gold-coloured line work in his lap, his brown robe patterned in fine gold-coloured line work, framed by a green halo with a white rim, rays on a dark ground and an aureole of gold-coloured scrollwork set with red and blue jewels.

His two disciples stand on red lotuses at the lower left and right, each holding a staff and a bowl, with pink peonies on the left and a pine tree, rocks and a waterfall on the right.

Golden clouds drift across an olive-dark sky with a crescent moon, stars and a sun, and a flaming jewel wrapped in pale blue scarves rises from peonies on the blue water below, above an offering of round jewels, tusks and an endless knot, inside a red border.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.

Size: 47 × 62 cm (18.5 × 24.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
