Shamatha Path (Way to Heaven) Thangka – 42×55 cm, Classic Grade
A white path winds up a green mountainside from a temple at the bottom to the sky: a monk leads an elephant and is followed by a monkey, and as the path climbs, the elephant turns from dark blue to white and the monkey falls behind, then disappears.
This is the path of calm abiding (shamatha), showing how the mind is tamed in stages. At the top, the monk rides the white elephant on a rainbow towards the Buddha, who sits in a roundel among clouds between two smaller Buddhas.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.
Size: 42 × 55 cm (16.5 × 21.7 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.
Also in this painting: The Buddha, two Buddhas, a monk, an elephant and a monkey
