Wheel of Life Thangka – 95×131 cm, Master Grade
Red Yama, wearing a crown of skulls, grips the Wheel of Life in his hands, feet and jaws.
Inside the wheel, the hub holds the animals that stand for the three poisons, a black and white ring shows beings falling and rising, six sections show the realms of rebirth, each with its own Buddha, and the outer rim shows the twelve links of dependent origination.
A standing Buddha points across from the upper right and a white bodhisattva stands in the upper left, above a landscape of green hills, rivers and an offering of jewels.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.
Size: 95 × 131 cm (37.4 × 51.6 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.
Also in this painting: A standing Buddha, a bodhisattva
About Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life is held by Yama, lord of death. At its hub, a rooster, a snake and a pig stand for desire, anger and ignorance; around them are the six realms of rebirth and, on the rim, the twelve links of dependent origination. A Buddha outside the wheel points to the way out.
Also known as Riduk.
