Dark blue Yama, with three eyes, a pink snout and a crown of five skulls, holds the Wheel of Life in his claws and jaws; the painting is drawn in fine gold-coloured line work on black, with touches of blue, red and white.

Houses, hills and figures fill the six realms of rebirth around the small hub. A Buddha sits in a temple at the upper left and a standing Buddha points from the clouds at the upper right, inside a patterned border with dragons.

Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.

Size: 45 × 57 cm (17.7 × 22.4 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →

In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.

Also in this painting: A Buddha in a temple, a standing Buddha

About Wheel of Life

The Wheel of Life is held by Yama, lord of death. At its hub, a rooster, a snake and a pig stand for desire, anger and ignorance; around them are the six realms of rebirth and, on the rim, the twelve links of dependent origination. A Buddha outside the wheel points to the way out.

Also known as Riduk.
