Wheel of Life Thangka – 56×68 cm, Classic Grade
Yama, with three eyes, a crown of five skulls and a dark red face, hands and feet, holds the Wheel of Life in his claws and jaws; the painting is drawn in fine gold-coloured line work on black, with touches of red, blue and white.
The six realms of rebirth fill the wheel around its small hub, each with a standing Buddha. A Buddha sits in a temple at the upper left and another among clouds at the upper right, and dragons and birds wind through the patterned border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas. Unmounted: it comes rolled, ready to frame or to have mounted.
Size: 56 × 68 cm (22.0 × 26.8 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
In the box: the painting, rolled (never folded) in a strong tube.
Also in this painting: A Buddha in a temple, a Buddha in the clouds
About Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life is held by Yama, lord of death. At its hub, a rooster, a snake and a pig stand for desire, anger and ignorance; around them are the six realms of rebirth and, on the rim, the twelve links of dependent origination. A Buddha outside the wheel points to the way out.
Also known as Riduk.
