Yamantaka with Consort Thangka – 62×82 cm, Master Grade
Yamantaka, the buffalo-headed conqueror of death, stands in union with his consort amid swirling gold-coloured flames, his many arms fanned out holding weapons and his feet trampling figures on a lotus base.
Teachers and deities sit on clouds across the top, with Tsongkhapa at the centre, and four-armed and two-armed wrathful protectors and a blue deity with a crossed vajra and bell appear above; below, a row of wrathful protectors rides buffaloes and other mounts across a landscape of hills and rivers.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 62 × 82 cm (24.4 × 32.3 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
Also in this painting: Tsongkhapa, teachers, wrathful protectors
About Yamantaka
Yamantaka, "destroyer of death", is the wrathful form of Manjushri. He has a buffalo head, many arms and legs, and is often shown in union with his consort, trampling figures that stand for death and ignorance.
