Yamantaka Thangka – 52×69 cm, Fine Grade
Blue buffalo-headed Yamantaka stands in union with his pale blue consort in a blaze of orange flames, his three-eyed buffalo head crowned with skulls and flanked by red, blue, white and yellow heads, with a red wrathful head and a small peaceful head rising above against a halo of green rays.
His many arms fan out on either side holding weapons and implements, his uppermost hands stretching an elephant skin, and his many legs trample figures lying on a red patterned base set on a lotus, with three skull cups of offerings before it.
Two lamas sit on clouds in the upper corners, one in a tall yellow hat holding a dark blue bowl at the left and one in a blue hat with his hands crossed at his heart between a flaming sword and a book on lotuses at the right, and two yellow wrathful figures sit in flames in the lower corners, the one at the right holding a skull cup.
Green hills, rivers, snow peaks and a tree surround him under grey and green clouds, with an offering of jewels in flames, bowls and tusks below, inside a red border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 52 × 69 cm (20.5 × 27.2 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →
