Yamantaka Thangka – 89×119 cm, Master Grade
Blue-black Yamantaka stands in a wide stance with a horned buffalo head and three eyes, flanked by yellow, red and white wrathful heads, with a red wrathful head above them and a small yellow peaceful face at the top, embracing his consort as he holds a curved knife and a skull cup at his heart.
Dozens of arms with pink palms fan out on both sides holding weapons, his many legs trample figures, animals and birds on a lotus, and great flames of gold-coloured, blue and white rise behind him.
Tsongkhapa sits among leaves and flowers at the top centre, a monk in a pointed yellow hat and a gold-coloured figure in the teaching gesture sit at the upper left, and two yogis sit on grey beasts at the upper right; below, a six-armed blue protector stands in flames between a red-faced rider on a pale horse and a blue rider on a white beast.
Olive-green hills with deer, waterfalls, a river and snow peaks fill the ground under a dark sky of purple and brown clouds, inside a red border.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
Size: 89 × 119 cm (35.0 × 46.9 in), including the painted border. Hand-painted, so allow ±1–2 cm. Size guide →

About Yamantaka
Yamantaka, "destroyer of death", is the wrathful form of Manjushri. He has a buffalo head, many arms and legs, and is often shown in union with his consort, trampling figures that stand for death and ignorance.
