Shakyamuni Buddha sits in a great circle at the centre of this long horizontal painting, his right hand touching the earth and his left holding a bowl, with two standing disciples below him.
Around him, scenes of his life are set in coloured roundels and among hills, palaces, trees and stupas, from his birth to his teaching, all drawn in gold-coloured line work on black with touches of blue, inside a border of dragons.
