Chenrezig Thangka in Silk Brocade
Chenrezig Thangka in Silk Brocade
White four-armed Chenrezig sits cross-legged on a white moon disc and a lotus of pink, orange, blue and green petals, two hands joined at his heart holding a jewel and the others holding a crystal mala and the stem of a blue lotus that opens at his shoulder, wearing a jewelled crown, gold-coloured earrings, red bead necklaces, a green shawl, an antelope skin over his left shoulder and a red lower robe.
A green halo with an orange scroll-patterned rim, a blue aureole of fine rays and an outer rim of gold-coloured scrollwork frame him, with red Amitabha holding a bowl on a lotus among blue and white clouds above his head, and pink and orange peonies, a snow peak and a leafy tree on either side under a blue sky.
At the lower left a golden standing figure with a green halo holds the stem of a white flower at the shoulder, and at the lower right a blue standing figure with an orange halo and a tiger-skin skirt holds an offering at the heart; between them a gold-coloured vase topped with flaming jewels rises from a lotus in a river of curling waves.
It is mounted in silk brocade.
Hand-painted in Nepal on cotton canvas.
